PreK - Kindergarten
Phonics and Story
The best way to encourage reading later in life is to provide children with access to books that interest them. In this course, we will focus on fostering a love for reading by reading fun, bright, and engaging books with kindergarten students. Additionally, this course will focus on phonics skills to help your child read independently.

Reading and Sight Words
This class will help any shy student come out of their shell by becoming empowered through reading. We will be focusing on sight words and other early phonics skills to develop confidence and reading skills that will transfer to the classroom. We will be doing a lot of reading and early sentence writing in this course.

Chinese Story and New Words
Parents in multilingual homes often wish they could teach their child in both English and their home language. This class makes that an easy reality for busy parents. Students will be reading a Chinese storybook with the mentor every day and learning important phrases and high-frequency words.

Music
This class will provide an engaging and educational experience, by teaching your child fun and relevant children’s songs. Before learning to read, children often engage with music and through imitation. This class will provide fun stimulation for little ones. In addition, the teacher will introduce an instrument to the class each week.

Grade 1 - 2
Reading Comprehension and Discussion
Does your 1st or 2nd grader want to visit distant lands, learn about different cultures, and travel just by opening books this summer? Sign them up for our fun and engaging Book Club, which will focus specifically on reading, verbal discussion, and public speaking while working with chapter books. It is recommended you sign your child up for both this course and the Grammar and Writing Course.

Grammar and Writing
This course, congruent with the Book Club course, will focus on writing in response to the books we read. We will be focusing on paragraphs, speech, complex sentences, mini-narratives, and journaling as a way to dive deeper into meaning through writing. It is recommended you sign your child up for both this course and the Book Club course.

Virtual World Trip
Students will learn about a new culture each week, including historical background, craft, music, and food, from each geographical area. This will be a fun way for your child to feel like they can have a bit of fun this summer, even while stuck inside. For this level, the class will be focused more on music, craft, food, and etc. In addition, the teacher will lead the kids to use their imagination to discuss and write about the trip.

Acting and Drama
Does your child have a flair for the dramatics? This class might be the perfect ticket for them! This fun, active, and captivating class will allow your child to express themselves, practice public speaking, improve listening skills, and learn valuable teamwork skills. Students will focus on learning, through experience, scene work, monologue study, and engage in improvisation games.

Grade 3 - 8
Reading Comprehension and Discussion (G3-G4)
Students will read and discuss one book each week with the class, focusing on understanding both what the author is saying explicitly and what must be understood through deeper reading. This class will provide an intensive focus to help students who may need additional practice comprehending abstract reading ideas and logic.

Math Boost
Often during summer break, students forget most of what they learned the year before! In this class, we will briefly review the concepts they've been learned and preview important and challenging concepts they are going to learn. Help your child avoid ‘brain drain’ by signing them up for this fun and engaging math class. For G5-G6 grade, the class will focus on learning pre-algebra while G7-G8 class will learn algebra.

Competitive Math 1-3
Students will be exploring a deeper understanding of math. The mentor will lead them to different topics and beyond what they would learn in a traditional classroom. This class will prepare students to participate math competitions such as Math Kangaroo, Math League, MathCounts and etc. Perfect for an aspiring mathlete!

Introduction to Non-fiction (G5-G6)
Students will read excerpts from biographies, autobiographies, essays, tractates, letters, and historical documents, with the goal of learning to read, analyze, and discuss these sources. Through close reading and class discussion, students will develop their ability to analyze non-fiction source materials. As students progress through school, a basic understanding of reading nonfiction is essential, this course aims to give students the foundation they need.

Non-fiction and Research (G7-G8)
Students will learn how to find and cite reputable sources in their own research, as well as how to write using the most commonly used writing format in American high schools, MLA. This course will focus on developing a research paper from start to finish. Students will learn how to conduct research in the humanities, including the use of online catalogs and other resources. Centered around non-fiction writing, this course will give students the opportunity to explore and evaluate sources and bring their findings together into a paper.

Chess
Students in the summer virtual chess camp will work with Grandmaster Mac. The students will participate in lessons, games, and different activities throughout the week with an emphasis on learning but in a fun way. Students will be grouped into different classes based on their ability level, so that they learn with students around their level.
